How to Wash Bath Mats

| Step 2: Wash the Bath Mats Washing Machine Before placing the bath mats in the washing machine, double-check the manufacturer's recommendations for the ideal water temperature. Machine-washable bath mat materials typically include cotton rugs, polyester mats, and nylon bath mats. In some cases, heat is ideal for killing bacteria and mold, so a warm temperature can be selected for the aforementioned types of rugs. A memory foam mat, on the other hand, should be washed at a cooler temperature to keep it intact. You can wash one to three mats at a time to balance the load and prevent them from being getting damaged. |  |
Handwashing Rugs that are made from delicate materials or are too big to fit your machine can be washed by hand. Additionally, handwashing can help extend the life of your rug by helping it maintain its materials. To wash by hand, begin by filling your bathtub or sink with warm water. Next, put on a pair of rubber gloves and add a few tablespoons of laundry detergent. Then, add the rugs to the mix and use a sponge or clean bristle brush to gently scrub it. Finally, rinse with cool water. |
| Step 3: Dry the Bath Mats Once your rugs and bath mats are done washing, hang them outside to dry when possible. Not only can this help preserve their rubber backing and adhesives, but drying them in the sun helps sanitize them too. If you're unable to let them air dry, they can tumble dry on the lowest setting for approximately 20 minutes.
